The Great Wave off Kanagawa is Katsushika Hokusai's most famous painting. Kanagawa is the closest surf spot to Tokyo. Many Tokyo surfers go to Kanagawa, so it's crowded with people. During good times, there are very smooth waves, and during rough turns, there are rough waves similar to those in Hokusai's paintings.

Even Japanese people will think you look cool with this tattoo design that depicts the amazing waves of Kanagawa. The reason is...Japanese calligraphy is written in a font called Gyosho. This font is perfect for expressing a flow like water. Normally, the Kaisho font is often used in Japan, but in order to express the waves of Kanagawa, the Gyosho font is used in Ae. The cool things about this design are the splashes that look like water splashes, the streamlined shape, and the areas where thin lines connect. As of January 2024, this handwritten font is full of originality and is the only one in the world.

This work was written by an artist named Ki-shi. She is an artist who has been practicing Japanese calligraphy for about 40 years. She qualifies as a scholarship calligrapher.
