Modern society and SHODO

For writing in modern society, we use pencils, fountain pens, ballpoint pens, felt-tip pens, and word processors for office writing. The former satisfies the speed that suits the times. The latter is very convenient in that it is simple and easy to read.

However, what people look for in writing is not only functional things; phrases such as "Calligraphy is the mind", "Calligraphy is the person", are still alive today. That's why I study calligraphy with such admiration.

SHODO knowledge

In the case of hard calligraphy like pencil, there is no big problem as long as the requirement to write quickly is met without having to study particularly difficult handwriting and handwriting, but there are certain commitments when it comes to using a calligraphy brush. For example, when it comes to how to draw a line, the angle at which you put the brush, the folds in the line (dot-break), how you want it to look like because it's a calligraphy brush, and how to write a certain character (stroke order), Gyou-sho and Sou-sho. It is also necessary to have knowledge of how to write.

Diversification of characters

What I always notice when walking around the city is the diversification of writing. Kai-sho, Gyou-sho, Sou-sho, and Rei-sho. Even in Kai-sho, there is a wide range of variations, such as those with slightly different shapes and a large number of strokes, and those with dots and strokes of different lengths. There are also many typos, misspellings, and slang.

Once upon a time, characters that omitted dots were called abbreviated characters, and some people think that these are the current commonly used kanji. It also feels like they are trying to understand slang words by applying them to their own imaginations.

Japanese people today are tolerant in all cases. The same goes for letters. We don't care about the length of small points or corners. Even if it's wrong, We read it as is, and it doesn't even feel unnatural. We wonder if our sense of writing has become so numb.

SHODO's soul

Letters are the soul of the Japanese people and the stronghold of their hearts. At the same time, it is also self-expression. The forms and tools of calligraphy have changed over time, as they have in the past, and it is impossible to predict how they will change in the future. It is not possible to weed out the work. Copying may be the only means of resisting mechanical civilization.

There is no emotion in the characters written by OA. It merely serves the role of a symbol to convey intentions, and each letter has no appeal. We believe that written words have life. Letters have faces. Each part of a letter has a different expression depending on how each person thinks and its position, and this is where the roots of graphology lie, and the characters written by a right-minded person can be worked on even if the shape is inadequate. You can also get a glimpse of a person's character from their attitude. Conversely, it is also possible to detect disordered behavior from disordered letters.

SHODO is useful for mental correction, and from the process of being transcribed, we can learn about changes in thinking and behavior, which can be used for future countermeasures.
