Last weekend 14 games were played across this great country. With 641 points scored and only 5 shutouts. Was your team shutout? I hope not as I love points, but if you were keep your chin up.
Only one game in the BAFL Premier over the weekend and what a humdinger. 2008's BritBowl finalists meet in Coventry. The London Blitz visited Coventry Cassidy Jets on Sunday in what was a mouth watering game. The last time these to teams meet was at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster back in September. When the Jets come back from 18 points behind at half time and won the final 3332. This season however the Blitz stamped their foot down in this game. Bursting out of the blocks in a Sunny Sunday afternoon the Blitz raced to a 280 half time lead and never looked back. No points were scored either way in the second half so enough said about that.
In Division 1, the Dundee Hurricanes opened their win column with a 2712 victory away to the West Coast Trojans. The Birmingham Bulls also had their first win of the season, when they beat the Redditch Arrows. The Kent Exiles were involved in yet another shoot out when they just missed out in Cambridge against the Cats. The Cats treated their home fans to a narrow victory but over 100 points in the Sunday Sun. BAFL 1 had a famous old rivalry this past weekend when the Ipswich Cardinals visited the Norwich Devils. This is one fixture that no matter what the recent results of each of the teams have been both team are out to win the game and win it well. On Sunday the victory went to the visitors, as the Cardinals won convincingly 470. The Devils will remember this game for a long time and will hope to put it right in their next game, chin up guys. BAFL 2's scores flew in over the weekend as the London Olympians kept their unbeaten record against the Essex Spartans, winning 326. Maybe if the Spartans had 300 men (sorry I just had to one week) they could have held back the powerful O's. The Clyde Valley Blackhawks narrowly got past the Glasgow Tigers in Glasgow. I guess it's nice to have a chance to write about a Glasgow team not winning (I feel funning today). The Staffordshire Surge matched the Leicester Falcons this week meaning both teams sit with a record of 3 wins and only 1 defeat. The London Blitz put down a huge marker with a strong performance away from Finsbury Park for the second week in a row. Is the Blitz the team to beat in the BAFL Premier? I'm sure the Coventry Cassidy Jets will have something say about my last statement. Speak of the Jets they got off to a good start in defending their National Championship.
The South Wales Warriors and Tamworth Phoenix both recorded victories without conceding a point. Both teams must have been fully focused for the full 60 minutes both sides of the ball. What a big scoring game this was, I've been unable to get a match report anywhere so please help. Both games finished very close and I have linked the match reports where I can and picture gallery if not.
I think your all learning by now that I love close battles. If it's high scoring of low scoring I just like the idea of every game going down to the wire.
In the BAFL Premier the Atzecs look to open their win account with a tough trip to the reigning BritBowl National Champions the Coventry Cassidy Jets. This will be the Jets first game of the season so they would hope that they can hit the ground running. In the other game the London Blitz visit the Farnham Fast Lane Knights. This will be a bruising incounter as both teams won in there first week and will be looking for the same.
BAFL 1 has 3 teams playing their first games of the season when Peterborough Saxons entertain the Norwich Devils, the Cambridgeshire Cats visit the Kent Exiles and the Tamworth Phoenix goes to Birmingham to face the Bulls. For me the game to look out for will be Doncaster travelling to Gateshead. Both teams have not tasted defeat this season and someone will have to go home empty handed. BAFL 2 is as usual full of fixtures with the Pumas welcoming the undefeated London Olympians. The Olympians have a great and long history in British American Football and have opened up this season with 2 victories. Unfortunately the Tigers game against the Wildcats is postponed, any information on this would be welcome. Top game in League 2 has to again be the undefeated battle when the Chester Romans visit the Lancashire Wolverines. I'm not going to bang on about that game because you can read my (very poor) match report on fourth down. In the other game from the BAFL Premier the Farnham Fast Lane Knights beat the Sussex Thunder 2116. The Thunder was expected to be taught a football lesson but the game didn't turn out that way. The Thunder twice led in the first half but the Knights experience told in the end. Key to this season will be the running of 24 Chris Lampey and arm of GBinternational quarterback 16 Eber Kington.
In BAFL 1 the Oxford Saints won there second game of the season to stay undefeated in 2009 with a 416 victory over the Redditch Arrows. Top scoring team over the weekend in League 1 was East Kilbride Pirates. The Pirates had to drop down from the BAFL Premier because of travel issues and not on the field of play. This does mean that they are a target for every team that they play. Starting slowly against the West Coast Trojans (at one point 120 down) they came back to record a 6212 victory.
BAFL 2 are well into there season now with a few teams having played 3 games ready. Lots of high scoring games with the Colchester Gladiators, Cornish Sharks and Chester Romans having stand out days. The Gloucester Banshees was able to avenge their opening day defeat against the Berkshire Renegades. In the first game the Renegades won by just 1 point 1312 but in this return game the Banshees ran out comfortable winners 4126. Cheap Jerseys
