衛国の公孫朝
が子貢
に尋ねた。「仲尼
はどこで学ばれたのか」
子貢が答えた。「文王・武王の道は地におちて滅びたわけではありません。それはまだ人々の間に生かされています。賢者はその大道を心得ています。不賢者もその小道は心得ています。文王・武王の道が残っているともいえるのです。したがって、私共の先生にとっては、すべての人が師であります。きまった師がいるわけではありません」
英訳
Wei country Gong Sun Zhao asked Zi Gong, " Where did Zhong Ni learn?
Zi Gong replied, " King of Wen and King of Wu's the doctrines has not fallen to the ground. It is still kept alive among the people. The wise man knows the big way. The normal man knows the small path.
It can be said that the king of Wen and King of Wu's the doctrines remains. Therefore, for our teacher, everyone is a master. There is not a decided a master."
