叔孫武叔が朝廷で同僚の大夫に向って言った。「子貢は仲尼以上の人物だと思います」
子服景伯がそのことを子貢に話した。
すると子貢が言った。「とんでもないことです。これを宮殿の塀にたとえてみますと、私の塀は肩ぐらいの高さです。その上から建物や室内の良さが見える程度です。しかし、先生の塀は数仞（約４ｍ）の高さです。門に入り中にはいってみないと、宗廟の美しさや、百官の盛大さは見えません。しかし、先生の門に入い得る者は少ないのです。大夫がそんなふうに言われるのも、今の世ではもっともの事かもしれません」
英訳
Shu Sun Wu Shu in imperial court toward a colleague's a grand tutor, and said, " I think Zi Gong is more than a Zhong Ni person."
Zi Fu Jing Bo spoke to Zi Gong this matter.
Then Zi Gong said, " It is a terrible thing. I'll compare this to the palace wall, my wall only reaches to the shoulders. The goodness of the building and the room is seen from the top. But the teacher's wall is about 4 meter high. If it not enters the gate, the beauty of the temple and the hundred officer's grand cannot be seen. However, there are few who can enter the teacher's gate.
A grand tutor said that thing, it might be a reasonable thing in the world today."
