子曰、惡紫之奪朱也。惡鄭聲之亂雅樂也。惡利口之覆邦家者。子曰、予欲無言。子貢曰、
子如不言、則小子何述焉。子曰、天何言哉。四時行焉、百物生焉。天何言哉。
現代語訳
老師が言われた。「私は紫色が朱色より流行しているのを憎む。鄭声が雅楽より流行しているのを憎む。邪道の弁舌が国家を危くしているのを最も憎む」
老師が言われた。「私は発言することを止めようと思っている」
子貢が言った。「先生がもし沈黙しましたら、私達弟子は何を伝えていけばいいのですか」
老師が言われた。「天を見るがいい。天にはどんな言葉があるのか。四季の変化は整然と行なわれている。万物はたゆみなく生育している。天にはどんな言葉があるのか」
英訳
The Master was said, " I hate that purple is more popularity than vermilion. I hate that Zheng Country's vulgar music is more prevalent than ceremonial court music. I most hate that the evil speech is jeopardizing the nation.
The Master was said, " I'm going to stop speaking."
Zi Gong said, " If the teacher is silent,what should the disciples tell inform?"
The Master was said, " See the heavens. What words are there in heavens? The change of the Four Seasons is done in an orderly manner. All things are growing tireless. What words are there in heavens?"
