子曰、君子不以言舉人。不以人廢言。
書き下し文
子曰(しいわ)く、君子(くんし)は言(げん)を以(もっ)て人(ひと)を拳(あ)げず。人(ひと)を
以(もっ)て言(げん)を廃(はい)せず。
現代語訳
老師の教え。「君子は、相手の言葉だけで人物を抜擢しない。その人物が駄目なだからといって、その人物の善い言葉を捨てない」
英訳
The Master's teachings, "A man of virtue do not an exceptional promotion for the person alone with the words of the opponent. Just because the person is useless does not throw away the good word of the person."
