有子曰、其爲人也孝弟、而好犯上者鮮矣。不好犯上、而好作亂者、未之有也。君子務本。
本立而道生。孝弟也者其爲仁之本與。

有子曰(ゆうしいは)く、其(そ)の人(ひと)と為(な)りや孝弟(こうてい)にして、
上(かみ)を犯すを好(この)む者(もの)は鮮(すく)なし。
上(かみ)を犯すを好(この)まずして、乱(らん)を作(な)すを好(この)む者(もの)は、
未(いま)だ之(これ)有(あ)らざるなり。
君子(くんし)は本(もと)を務(つと)む。本立(もとた)ちて道生(みちしよう)ず。
孝弟(こうてい)は其(そ)れ仁(じん)の本為(もとた)るか。
現代語訳
有先生の教え。
父母、兄などの年長者を尊敬する人柄なら、年長者に反抗する人はあまりいない。
年長者に反抗しない人は反乱を起こさない。君子(教養人)は修養に努力する。
修養を深く努めれば、道(生き方)を理解する。父母、兄などの年長者を尊敬する事が、
仁(人間愛)という生き方の根本なのだ。
