People should move out of cities and into the countryside. Discuss.

In recent years, it is a concern that all important institutions of a country are concentrated in one city. It is convenient for both the government and people to consolidate important institutions of a country in one place, however, if terrorism, pandemics, or natural disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, or heavy rains occur in over-concentrated cities, all significant functions of the nation will completely stop. During the coronavirus pandemic, many people worked or studied at home without going to their companies or schools. In Japan, it was said that remote work and online lessons would be popular, but now, many workers have started commuting and all students have gone back to their schools after the pandemic. Therefore, it has become difficult for people to move out of big cities and into the countryside again.

I’m surprised to hear that New York City is sinking because of the weight of their dense skyscrapers. Japanese people may think of this problem going forward because there are a lot of skyscrapers in Tokyo―like New York City. In Japan, there is now a concern of spreading infection because of the gathering of many people in one city after experiencing the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, 75% of people in Tokyo and neighboring prefectures were infected by the virus. If the essential functions in Tokyo cease completely, Japan might be in danger of losing its existence as a nation.

The coronavirus pandemic has given us a lot of warnings. The centralization of population in one city is one of the more serious warnings. If remote work were more popular in Japan because of the pandemic, people could find the answer to solve this issue. There are several reasons that working at home is not incorporated in Japanese society. In Japanese companies, employees are usually managed by their supervisors that monitor the working progress of their subordinates. Additionally, employees feel guilty for working at home because Japanese people recognize that their houses are the place to relax. Therefore, employees are always worried if their bosses and colleagues think that they are too lazy when working at home. This may be one of the unique aspects of Japanese culture. However, it is taken for granted that workers have free time during remote work because no one can disturb them. It is difficult to change our consciousness, thoughts, or customs, but now, it may be the time to renew our minds.

I think that Tokyo is the world's best city. My reasons are…

1.  There are many different types of restaurants in Tokyo. You can eat famous foods from around the world in Tokyo.

2.  There are a lot of greenery and parks in Tokyo. You can enjoy beautiful flowers in fresh air when you go to the parks.

3.  Tokyo is a convenient city to go anywhere because there are many train and subway lines, highways, and a Japanese hub airport called Haneda airport.
