おくさんと わたしは あそびに いきました
My wife and I hung out
そのまえに わたしは おもしろい ばしょ を さがして いました
Before that, I was looking for an interesting place.
あるばしょ とは とうきや です
One place is a pottery shop
とうきや は ホテルの ちかくです
The pottery shop is near the hotel.
おくさんと わたしは とうきや へ あるきます
My wife and I walk to the pottery shop.
とうきや に 10じ すぎに つきます
I arrive at the pottery shop just after 10 o'clock.
でも ドア は しまって いました
But the door was closed.
ドアは ガラスの ドアです
The door is a glass door
なかが みえます
I can see inside
みせの うしろに ひとが みえます
We can see people behind the store
ドアを たたきます
We knock on the door
ねんぱいの じょせいが ドアまで あるきます
An elderly woman walks to the door
かのじょは ドアを あけます
She opens the door
わたしたちは 『おみせは あいてますか?』 と ききます
We ask, ``Is your store open? ”
かのじょは 『はい、あいて います』 と いいます
She says, ``Yes, I'm open.''
でも かのじょは ともだちと おちゃを のんでいます
But she's having tea with her friends.
かのじょは じかん を わすれていました
She forgot the time
ねんぱいの じょせい は わたしたちを みせのなかに しょうたい します
The elderly woman invites us into the store.
わたしたち は 『あとで もどって きます』と いいました
We said, ``We'll come back later.''
でも かのじょは しゅちょうします
But she insists
かのじょは わたしたちを みせの うしろに つれて いきます
She takes us to the back of the store
ほかの ふたりの ねんぱいの じょせいは テーブルに すわって います
Two other elderly women are sitting at a table.
かのじょ は 『すわって ください』と わたしたちに いいます
She says to us, ``Please sit down.''
わたしたちは すわります
We sit down
でも いすは たりません
But there aren't enough chairs
ひとりの じょせいが せきを たちます
A woman gets up from her seat
わたしたち は ことわります
We refuse
それでも 『すわって ください』と しゅちょう します
Nevertheless, she insists, ``Please sit down.''
かのじょたち は おちゃを くれます.
They give us cup of tea
かのじょたち は ほかに バナナパン もくれます.
They also give us banana bread.
ひとりの じょせいが バナナパンを つくりました
A woman made banana bread
わたしたちは びっくり しました
We were surprised
にほんで バナナパンを つくるひとが いることに びっくり しました
I was surprised that there are people who make banana bread in Japan.
なぜなら バナナは にほんで そだたない からです
Because bananas don't grow in Japan.
