Andy Reid has decided to change the preseason plan and replace his starting QB Kevin Kolb with Michael Vick.

One of the biggest decisions for this season has been taken by the Philadelphia Eagles, and it surely will be one of the most popular topics of discussion throughout this year. It might be way too early in the season ?beginning of Week 3- to be witnessing such a drastic change from the Eagles, but the call has already been made by Reid, as Kevin Kolb sees how his role during the preseason suffers a 180 degree turn. With the departure of Donovan McNabb to Washington, it seem that Philadelphia was making a statement about who their trust was going to placed on for this season, to guide them to the top seats of the NFC East division. With a salary of $12.25 million, all fingers pointed at Kevin Kolb -a player that arrived in 2007 as a long-term project- to be the chosen one. During the preseason doubts where quickly dissipated and the assumptions seemed to be now facts.
The awaited debut for Kolb as starting QB came with the season opener against Green Bay, which unfortunately for him, he couldn?t complete due to a concussion suffered in the second quarter that forced him to be withdrawn. The game was lost 27-20.
With Kolb out, it was Vick?s turn to see action, and even though he was able to end up the game ?where he played the last two quarters-with 175 passing yards and one touchdown, his numbers were not sufficient to prevent the defeat.
The week after Vick continued to replace Kolb as a precaution of ( as a measure to make Kolb's health a priority since he suffered a concussion during his last game) the concussion suffered, while they waited for the medical results. His numbers from the previous game against the Packers were doubled versus Detroit -284 passing yards and two touchdowns-, and on this game they did contribute to the first win of the season 35-32.
Vick?s great performance has impressed Reid, who thinks that his QB is playing ?out of his mind right now?, which was a reason good enough for him to make the public announcement that confirms Vick as the starter for Week 3 game against the Jaguars. Questioned about his call, Reid replied that as the coach ?it is my obligation to make the proper decision?. And his judgment dictates Vick?s strengths are the solution for the problems that the offensive line is facing, as he has more mobility, in contrast to Kolb whose strength is his accuracy.
Avoiding controversy, Kolb has said that ?I want to be out there. I feel like I'm a starter in this league but at the same time I'm a team player, I want to do what's best for our team and do what I can for Mike.?
