Service fees get all the attention, but the fees that decide whether a haul is cheap or expensive are the ones nobody puts on the pricing page. After a year of tracking orders across agents, the pattern is consistent: the quoted fees are similar, and the quiet ones are where buyers lose money.
What the pricing page shows
Every agent lists a service fee, and most list a domestic shipping estimate. Those two lines are real, but they describe maybe two thirds of what you will actually pay on a typical order.
What it hides
- Storage overruns — the free window is finite, and the daily rate after it rarely appears in the fee table.
- Repacking — removing bulk packaging is sometimes free, sometimes per parcel.
- Extra QC photos — the first set is included; the second set is not always.
- Volumetric weight — international shipping is billed on whichever is greater, actual or volumetric, and light bulky items punish buyers who did not check.
The two questions that expose everything
Ask what the storage deadline is in days, and whether the international rate uses actual or volumetric weight. An agent that answers both clearly has nothing to hide in the rest of the table. An agent that deflects is monetizing the ambiguity.

Track it once
Add the four quiet fee lines to your spreadsheet as columns, not footnotes. After three orders you will know which agent actually costs what — and that knowledge is worth more than any coupon code.
