石見銀山で銀が産出されたのは鎌倉時代の事だったようです。
その後、採掘が中断されていましたが、戦国時代後期から江戸時代前期にかけて最も多くなり、当時は日本最大の銀山でした。ちなみにこの時期、日本の銀の産出量は世界の1/3を占めていたそうです。
石見銀山は、代官所周辺、大森エリアそして銀山エリアに分かれています。
今後、これらの様子を英語版で紹介する予定です。

Iwami Silver Mine was located in the middle part of Shimane Prefecture, where used to be "Iwami" Province.
The amount of mined silver from Iwai Silver Mine at the late sixteenth century and the beginning of the seventeenth century was the highest in Japan.
As the amount of mined silver from Japan was one third of the world-wide mined amount in this period, it is considered that Iwami Silver Mine was the world largest silver Mine.
Iwami Silver Mine consists of three areas.
They are "Omori Magistrate's Office", Omori Historical District and "Ginzan Area", which means "Silver Mine". These three areas will be introduced in the following pages.
