The Sankyo Warehouses are located in Sakata, which is in the northern part of Yamagata Prefecture.
The Sankyo Warehouses were built in 1839 as warehouses of the Sakata Rice Exchange.
Rice harvested in Sakata area was stored here.
You can go to the warehouses through the Sankyo Bridge over the Niita River.
Originally, fourteen warehouses were built and twelve still remain.
"Keyaki" trees, Zelkova, are planted behind the warehouses to prevent sun shine and strong wind to the warehouses.
The atmosphere of the "Keyaki" trees and the warehouses are very nice.

The Sankyo Warehouses are a nice historical sites in Sakata.
You will see historical buildings in the Meiji Age, when Japan is trying to catch up western countries.
It would be good to visit here together with Abumiya Residence and HONMA Residence in Sakata.
