やっと見つけた
高野山の美容院の先生が
1月に入院し療養中です
My hair stylist had been
hospitalized in January
and has still been
recuperating from
the illness.
3月の初めのことですが
床屋さんの前で
70代の女性が近所の方と
立ち話をしていました
It was the beginning of
March, I saw a lady in
her 70th chatting with
a neighbor in front of
the barber shop.
その方が男性でしたら
声はかけなかったと
思うのですが、
I wouldn’t ask if
the person was a man.
「髪を切っていただけますか？」
Could you please cut my hair?
正直、
床屋で髪を切るなんて
ドキドキでした
Honestly, I was a little
nervous to have a haircut
at a barber shop.
ところが、
切り終えてみれば、
今までの誰よりも
私のクセのある髪の生え方を
上手にあしらい、
きれいなボブに
仕上がりました
However, she knew exactly
how to handle my wavy hair,
and it was beautifully done.
そして...
生まれ初めて
床屋さんで
顔を剃ってもらいました
I also had my face shaved.
これが想像以上に
気持ちよく
あやうく居眠りしそうに
なりましたが
It felt so good that
I almost fell a sleep、
but
途中、
眉毛も剃ったり
ハサミで切り揃えている時は
一瞬ヒヤリとしました
when she started shaving
and cutting my eyebrows,
I became nervous.
太めで濃くまっすぐな眉を
気に入っていたからです

しかしながら
整えられた眉は
顔全体を洗練された
雰囲気にし

結果、
突然飛び込んだ床屋は
功を奏しました
It was spontaneous but
absolutely satisfactory.
あれから早くも
3ヶ月近く経ち
再びその床屋さんへ
行きました

so I went to the barber shop
again.
「この間、
友達の庭のユリを見ていたら
目の前にシカがいて
ビックリしたぁ!」
I was looking at lilies at
my friend’s yard, then,
I saw a deer right in front
of me!
「人のことジーっと見て
逃げへんのよ。」
The deer was starting at me
and didn’t even run away.
「そしたら、友達が
それシカやないでー。
カモシカやでーって。」
Then, my friend said
it wasn’t deer but
Japanese serow.
「カモシカって
凝視しますよね。」
I know they stare.
「ほんでなぁ、
この間はそこんとこに
まっしろなきれいな犬がおってな、
よう見たらキツネやった。」
I saw a beautiful white dog
the other day, but it was
actually a fox!
「私が奥の院でみたキツネは
しっぽだけ白で、そのしっぽが
1mくらいありました。」
The fox I saw at Okunoin
had a white tail, which was
1m long.
「そうなんや...
シッポ長くてツヤツヤや。」
Right, long and shiny.
「茶色くて丸いんは
ネコかと思うたら
タヌキやったわ。」
One day, I thought I saw
a brown cat, but it was
a raccoon!
顔を剃ってもらいながら
永遠と続く
高野山の動物物語。
We could talk endlessly
about the wild animals
in Koyasan .
カミソリが顔を滑る最中に
どれだけ口を動かして
大丈夫なものなのか...
Though I wasn’t sure
it was safe to move
my mouth when the blaze
was on my face and
kept moving back and forth.
楽しく過ごすうちに
髪も顔もスッキリしました
While having a great time,
my hair and face were
all done, and I felt refreshed.
「2,800円」

前回はヘアカットが3,000円
顔剃りが1,000円でした
I paid $30 for haircut and
$10 for shaving last time.
「顔剃りもですよ？」

the fee for shaving.
「そやな、
顔剃り入れて2,500円」

高野山の午後は
のどかに
過ぎてゆくのでした
It’s such a tranquility of
life in Koyasan.
お客さんが来ましたので
お礼を言い、
外に出ました。
When the other customer
came, I thanked her and
left the barber shop.
なんとなく
気になり
鏡を覗き込むと...
Somehow it bothered me
so I looked into the mirror.
「あっ！」
Oh!
眉毛が
ビー・バップ・ハイスクールに
なっていました
My eyebrows looked like
delinquent teenage boys
in the old Japanese movie.
