Hello allパー I hope everyone is having a great week. I was recently on a trip and I was staying at a hotel when I thought about the last time I was on a business trip. I was working for a Japanese company and we had to go to a meeting in Los Angeles. That trip reminds me of how often I hear Japanese people use Japanese English (Waseigo). There are so many Waseigo words in Japan and the worst part is that most people don’t know that it is INCORRECT English. On that trip in Los Angeles, we had to wake up early and one of my colleagues said he was going to call the “Front” and ask for a “Morning Call”. I was a little confused, but I soon realized what he said. He used 2 Japanese English words that confused me. I was able to figure out what he said because I have lived in Japan for a long time, but people in foreign countries might not understand. So it is very important to try and use the correct English in all situationsグッド!

Japanese English(和製英語) → English (英語)

1. Morning Call. (モーニングコール) → Wake-up Call.
Ex. Could I get a wake up call for 5am?

2. Front (フロント) → Front Desk
Ex. Excuse me, where is the front desk?

So the next time you are in a hotel, please remember these words. I hope this tip helps!!
