I asked God for strength, that I might achieve
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey...

大きな事を成し遂げる為に　強さを与えて欲しいと 神に求めたのに　謙遜を学ぶように　弱さを授かった

I asked for health, that I might do greater things
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things...

偉大なことができるようにと　健康を求めたのに 　よりよきことをするようにと　病気を賜った

I asked for riches, that I might be happy
I was given poverty, that I might be wise...

幸せになろうとして　富を求めたのに　賢明である ようにと　貧困を授かった

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God...

世の人々の賞賛を得ようとして　力と成功を求め たのに　得意にならないようにと　失敗を授かった

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things...

人生を楽しむために　あらゆるものを求めたのに　 あらゆるものを慈しむために　人生を賜った

I got nothing that I asked for―but everything I had hoped for
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am among all men, most richly blessed!

求めたものは一つとして　与えられなかったが　 願いはすべて聞き届けられた　私はもっとも豊か に祝福されたのだ
