When daffodils begin to peer -
With heigh! The doxy over the dale -
Why, then comes the sweet o' the year;
For the red blood reigns in the winter's pale.

For a quart of ale is a dish for a king.

5巻の ２曲目は、ムーア人の将軍オセローが策略にはまり嫉妬の末に妻デズデモーナを殺す
悲劇「オセロー」第４幕３場から。
オセローに見持ちを疑がわれて妻デズデモーナが、小間使いが哀しい唄を歌いながら死んだことを
語り、その唄を思い出せないと歌うもの。哀切極まる旋律が聴く者の心を打つ。
右側のCD『Shakespeare in Music』には、「The poor soul sat sighing」「How should I your true love
know?」の２曲が収録されている。
