Today, I went to my friend’s thanksgiving party, enjoying a lot of food such as turkey, prime rib, mash potatoes, lobster and so on. These foods were excellent, and I was really happy to have dinner with my friend and his family.
Thanksgiving dinner was much more gorgeous than I’ve ever thought.
What is thanksgiving…
This is a history lesson, Pilgrims from Europe arrived to America and shared food with Native Americans / Indians that already inhabited the U.S. to compensate for a lack of food on either side.
It’s a holiday about togetherness.
Because we are thankful for family, friends, and food!!
(It was so impressive for me that thanksgiving has a big meaning for American people and I felt something else from this experience.)
アメリカには、Thanksgivingという行事があります。もちろん、アメリカに来る前から知っていましたが、実際にThanksgivingパーティーに参加するのは初めてでした。
感想から言うと
なんだか感動しました。
もちろん、僕も家族は大切にしていますが、I love youとかは言ったことはないです。
アメリカでは気持ちをはっきり言葉にする文化があるので、Love youなどを家族や友達に日常から言うのは、ごく自然なことです（Love youは、愛してるっていうよりはもっと軽い感じで使ってるイメージ）。しかし、Thanksgivingでは、みんなが家族、親戚、友達、食べ物など全てにもう一度しっかりと感謝をし、その日に出会った人にはHappy Thanksgivingと言います。
Thanksgivingとは、、
約４００年前、ヨーロッパから来たピルグリムと呼ばれる人達が、飢えに困っていたネイティブアメリカンを助けたのが、始まりだそうです。こういう背景があって、アメリカではThanksgivingの日にもう一度お互いを尊重し、この日を祝うためにHappy Thanksgivingと言います。
毎年、１１月の第４木曜日です。この日は、祝日！
この日に、親戚や友達が同じ場所に集まり、みんなで仲良くご飯を食べている様子を見ていたら、温かい気持ちになりました。と同時に、アメリカ人にとってThanksgivingはとても意味のある重要な祝日だということに気がつきました。
来年は日本でFriendsgivingパーティーやろかな。笑
FriendsgivingパーティーはThanksgivingより前の日に友達同士でやる行事。
