The origins of the drink are unknown. Popularly,
to the Queimada is attributed Celtic origins and it
is believed to have healing powers,
but recent studies seem to date it as such into
the Middle Ages, even though, the consumption
of liquor, usually without burning, was common
in Galicia traditional rural, where it was known
as a medicine for colds.
