BTW this is the first Patrick Gale novel I have ever read (my Kiwi friend Karen Presbury kindly recommended it to me) and was completely charmed by it:

Moreover, I did help the Japanese translator Miss A by contacting Patrick's agents asking questions such as "what do you mean by the awkward leg?" and so on) and drafting the Japanese edition by taking over her junior assistant who was struggling at that time. But she ruined it by using a wrong pronounciation in her edition so I was not entirely happy about the result. It seems that she was never asked to do another novel by him so that's fine. But isn't it a shame there are so many "amateur" (fake professional) translators publishing Japanese editions of good novels without proper knowledge of the language and the background culture....
