Misery
こちらではたまに聞く言葉です。
This is a term that I hear sometimes.
この写真の空を見てください。
Look at the sky of this picture.
オハイオの冬は寒さが厳しく
The winter season is severe temperature in Ohio,
雲がどんよりしてる。
clouds always cover the sky.
そんな日は、
such a day,
みじめな気分だと人々は言います。
people say that it's a misery day.
私の場合は、
In my case,
美しい夏のオハイオを知りません。
I don't know a beautiful summer in Ohio.
だから、どんなに雲が空を覆っても
So even if no matter how many clouds cover the sky,
みじめな日だと感じない。
I don't feel misery.
なぜなら空は広く、
Because of the sky is so huge,
ビルは空を遮らない。
skyscrapers never block the sky.
地面に対して、
against the ground,
空が圧倒的に広いということを
the sky is vast and overwhelming,
私は知らなかった。
I did not know that.
もちろん晴れてる日が大好きです。
But of course I like sunny days.
What a misery day
ほどオーバーに使うというより、
あ〜なんかどんよりしてヤダねー
くらいの感覚で使います。
日常会話でもよく使える言葉なのだというのは、
こちらにきて初めて知りました
