Caught On Tape: 'Panda-Monium'
NEW YORK, May 20, 2005
In Tokyo, Japan, a small animal known as the lesser panda has been attracting crowds with its unusual behavior.
The two-year-old male named Futa, who has been living at the Chiba City Zoo, has a habit of standing up on two feet like a human. The lesser panda is from the raccoon family and by nature it moves on four feet.
Futa, on the other hand, stands on two feet and stays still for more than 10 seconds and is able to keep his spine straight and stand unshaken. The 24-inch long mammal apparently stands up once or twice a day.
In addition, the lesser panda is normally nocturnal, but Futa moves around energetically during the day.

東京で、レッサーパンダとして知られている小動物が、珍しい行動で群衆を惹き寄せています。
千葉市の動物園に住む風太（オス２歳）は、人間のように２本足で立ち上がる習性を持っています。
アライグマ科のレッサーパンダは本来４足歩行で動き回りますが、風太は２本足で立ち、
そのまま１０秒以上も立ち続けます。背骨をまっすぐにして、ゆるぎなく立つことができるのです。
この２４インチの哺乳動物は、１日に１度か２度、きちんと立ち上がります。
また、レッサーパンダは通常夜行性ですが、風太は日中エネルギッシュに動き回ります。
