次にボランチだが、これまで主軸だった遠藤保仁を外したのは、彼を途中から入れたほうが相手にとっては厄介だと思うからだ。コスタリカ戦でも後半から遠藤が入って、流れが変わった。あのフワッとしたリズムの作り方は独特で、劣勢のときや、点を取りに行きたいときに、遠藤という強力な"カード"が控えていることは心強い。
そうした選択ができるのも、山口と青山の成長がある。とりわけ山口は、テストマッチ３試合で最も評価が上がった選手。今年３月のニュージーランド戦（４－２）のときと比べても、前への意識が高くなり、守備での貢献度も増した。最終ラインの前で相手の攻撃をブロックしようという気持ちが強くて、危ないところには必ず顔を出している。
前線へのタテパスの精度も高く、コスタリカ戦、ザンビア戦では、ＦＷ柿谷曜一朗にスーパーなパスを送って、何度か決定機を演出。攻守において、目覚しい活躍を見せている。にもかかわらず、あまりメディアに取り上げられていないのは不思議でならない。ＤＦ森重とともに、もっと脚光を浴びていい選手だと思う。
１トップを大迫にしたのは、昨年11月の欧州遠征で奮闘し、以来、ここ半年くらいですごく成長した選手だからだ。

勢いのある大久保嘉人の先発もありだが、１トップと２列目、４つのポジションはどこでもこなせる彼には、遠藤と同様、苦しい状況で使える貴重なカードとしてベンチに置いておきたい。
さて、コートジボワールと戦ううえで重要なことは、第一に相手の強力ＦＷドログバのケア。前線でポイントを作られると、かなり面倒なので、彼へのパスコースはきっちり封じたい。そのうえで、センターバックと挟み込んで対応するために、ボランチのプレスバックという動きも大事になってくる。

そういう意味でも、この試合のキーマンとなるのは、左サイドバックの長友。正直、サッカーファンという目線で考えると、ジェルビーニョvs長友というのは、その対決を純粋に楽しみたいマッチアップだが、日本が結果を残すためには長友のがんばりが不可欠だ。長友がジェルビーニョの突破を封じることができれば、日本の勝機も見えてくるだろう。
ただ、テストマッチ最後のザンビア戦で、気になったことがあった。日本は、３－２とリードしてから、試合を終わらせるようなゲーム運びができなかったこと。そのうえ、４－３になってからも、大久保がサイドから突破してクロスを上げるなどして、最後まで点を取りにいこうとしていたことだ。
決して、最後は守りに徹するべきだと言っているわけではない。どうやって試合を締めくくるのか、チーム全体の意思統一が図れていなかったことが問題だった。
まして、残り時間がわずかな状況で４－３と再度リードを奪いながら、不用意に攻め続けていたのはいただけない。個人の力をアピールする親善試合ならまだしも、Ｗ杯のシミュレーションとなる試合では、最後はボールをキープして勝ち切る戦いに徹するのが大前提。テストマッチとはいえ、そういう細かいところも徹底しておかなければ、本番で足元をすくわれかねない。そんなことにならないためにも、チームとして勝つためにすべきことを再確認しておく必要があるだろう。
攻撃に関しては、改善すべき点は見当たらないけれども、唯一の不安要素はシュートが少ないこと。どんな形でもいいから、もっとシュートを打つべきだ。シュートというのは、ボクシングで言えば、ジャブのようなもの。何度も（シュートを）打つことで、相手を崩すチャンスが生まれてくる。攻撃の選手には、そのイメージを持って、試合に臨んでほしいと思う。
