とてもお疲れのご様子。
特許調査でものすごい量の特許公報を読んだということです。
その際に、こんな質問をされました。
「審査では、何千件も特許公報を読んでいるようだが、本当か？」
本記事では、この点について解説してみたいと思います。
あなたの発明が特許になるかを調べる際にも参考になるでしょう。
ただし、個人の方がご自身で特許調査することはお勧めしません。
私たち専門家にお任せください。
■特許の審査では特許公報を何千件も読むのか？
結論としては、
✔特許の審査では、何千件も特許公報を読むこともあります。
✔ただ、「読む」の意味が少し違うかも知れません。
読む労力も、想像とは違うかも知れません。
何千件も特許公報を読むといっても、
✔すべて平等に、何千件も端から端まで読むわけではありません。
特許の審査は、Googleの検索結果とは違います。
関連性の高い特許公報を列挙するというものではありません。
さらに言えば、審査結果（拒絶理由）は、
列挙された特許公報を、適当に組み合わせて、ハイ拒絶！
とするわけではないのです（笑）。
■主引例と副引例を探す
特許の審査における特許調査は、大まかには次のように行われます。
①審査対象となる発明に「最も近い発明」を探します。
多くの場合は、特許公報から探します。
この特許公報は「主引例」と呼ばれます。
主引例は一般には１つです（引用文献１）。
この最も近い発明は「引用発明」などと呼ばれます。
②審査対象となる発明と、引用発明とで違いがある場合
→その違いに関連する事項が記載された特許公報を探します。
この特許公報は「副引例」と呼ばれます。
副引例は２つ以上になることがあります（引用文献２～ｎ）。
①の作業では、特許公報をしっかり読み込みます。
②の作業では、関連事項のみを読みます。
審査対象が多いと、かなりの特許公報に目を通すことがあります。
ただし、労力は①ほどではありません。
①と②の総数が、数千件になることもあります。
ただし、①だけで何千件も読み込むということはまずありません。
■特許を出す前に、十分に特許調査を行いましょう！
本記事では、審査官が行う特許調査について、概説しました。

Patent examination is different from Google search results.
This is not a list of highly related patent publications.
Furthermore, the examination results (reasons for refusal) are

■Search for main citations and sub-citations
Patent searches in patent examination are roughly conducted as follows.
① Search for the "closest invention" to the invention to be examined.

This closest invention is called a ``cited invention.''
