Yesterday, I went to a cafe near the station. There were two purposes to go there.
Firstly, I wanted to eat a shaved ice. The cafe sells an original shaved ice which tastes sweet summer orange. On the pile of ice freak were sweet summer orange syrup with condensed milk. Some people may think the fruit is a little bitter different from its name. However, the syrup was delicious because the bitterness and sweetness were blended properly. On the top of it were some pieces of peel of sweet summer orange with white smooth cream. I remember that they were slightly burned and it made the taste better. What's surprising is a lump of cream cheese within the shaved ice. While there were lumps of pannna cotta within other shaved ice, only within sweet summer taste shaved ice was a block of cheese. (Actually there were three types of shaved ice sold: strauberry, toasted tea, and sweet summer orange.) That's why I sisn't choose another and chose this taste. And it was my first time to eat cream cheese with ice freak. The taste was new to me. The sourness of sweet summer orange and rich taste of cream cheese were mixed. The collaboration between crunchy texture of ice freak and deep texture of cream cheese was also great. I don't want to mention that this shaved ice was put on pottery of Karatsu. On the meeting the day before yesterday, one of the member of the project said that she wanted to experience the process to make a pottery of Karatsu during her last year here. She is out-of prefecture senior high school student, so I guess she wants to know more about Karatsu by the time she goes to another city to go to a university. The existance of Karatsu pottery has been natural for me since I was little, so I hadn't paid so much attention to this culture. I know this culture came from other continent, so it can be a key to solve some hidden mystery in Karatsu. What's remarkable about this pottery is a virtue of asymmetry: it can be said to other pottery like Seto earthenware. While when it comes to ceramic ware in western culture it is awarded to be symmetrical perfectly, we appreciate the asymmetrical taste of pottery of Karatsu. The rough texture, the color of earth, the unpredictable figure, all of these can be a virtue of Karatsu earthenware. This time, the color of this pottery was in a good collaboration with a white and orange shaved ice. I could enjoy the sweet a lot.
The second purpose was to read a book about Karatsu there. I expected that there were some books about this city, but I couldn't find them. Instead, there were tons of books about community activity and migration. I was talking about interview with a migrant of Karatsu, so it may be a hint when the time come.
