Checks are one among the most frequently used methods for financial transactions. The received check must be accessed quickly, easily, and cost-effectively. The checks are processed effectively to get the amount transferred to the bearer. The processes involved in collecting a check, converting the check, and clearing it to and from financial institutions are collectively known as check processing.

The general processes followed in processing a check are: first, the check received will be deposited in a bank; normally the bank would be the check receiver's bank. If the check issuer and the receivers banks are the same, then the check will be cleared immediately. In most cases, the banks will be different. The bank in which the check is deposited requests for the verification of the funds in the account of the issuer's bank. If a sufficient amount is present, the amount specified in the check is deposited to the receiver's bank account. This completes the process.

There are various other methods through which a check is processed. First, the paper check is converted into an electronic check. This is done by inserting the check into an electronic check converting machine. Within seconds, the check will be converted into an electronic check file. These electronic check files are interpreted by specially designed software which in a few moments, will come with a receipt. The check bearer will get his money transferred on the next business day.
