本日、4/2に渋谷DUOでのDelphicの来日公演に行ってきました。会場も小さくて音もよく、いいライブでした。あっという間に終わった感はありますが、クオリティがよく、このタイミングで見ておいてよかったです。
Delphicですが、UK Manchester 出身
の3人組で、元々はBloc Partyの来日公演時のsupport actとして名前があったのがきっかけで知り、それからは昨年末からかなりのお気に入りバンドです。結局その時はBloc Party側の公演が中止でなくなり (2度も)、その他の日程は調整できず、今回はそのリベンジもかねてました。UKでは2009年からBreakしており、BBC、Xfm、NMEなどではかなり彼らの曲がかかっております。今年になって1st Album「Acolyte」も発売されたので、日本でも今後さらにBreakしそうな予感です。
音は少しNew Orderっぽいところがありますが、New Orderとの最大の違いは楽器がうまいこと。そして、かなり踊れます。さらにVocalの声もよく、ライブでもすごく良かったです。
以下、1st Album お勧めの曲を紹介します。特に2、8曲目がよいです。

前回も紹介した The Big Pink いいです。何がいいかというと私が昔から好きな Shoegaze の音に近いことです。回り回ってここにまた戻ってきたのでしょうか。特に彼らの Single に関しては Melody がしっかりしてて、美しいギターノイズとコーラス、さらに Electronic の要素も入っているので Club で大音量でかけてほしいような曲に仕上がってます。また、My Space や彼らの official site に行くとわかりますが、使われている写真がアートしているところも Ride や Smiths (音楽性は違いますが) などと重なり、気に入っています。

以前は音質が悪くしばらく聴いてませんでしたが、おそらくシステムをリニューアルしたのだと思います。現在、日本から聴けるInternet Radioとしては十分な音質になっておりました。内容はイギリスの音楽雑誌NMEで取り上げるArtistにFocusしているだけあってかなり自分好みの選曲になっております。本国ではInternetだけでなく有線やDigital Radioなどで放送しているようで、1時間毎に現地でのNewsが入りますが、これはこれでよいです。
Internet Radioではすでに当たり前になってますが、Playlistが確認できるのでいいArtistや曲を発掘でき楽しいです。最近のお気に入りはVelvet by The Big Pinkです。彼らのToo Young To Loveという曲もよいです。まだ、1st Albumも出してないのでCDを紹介できず、また他の曲のよさはわかりませんが、Official VideoがYouTubeにあったので紹介しておきます。美しいギターノイズとメロディが90年代のShoegazeを思い出します。なんとレーベルは4AD! そして、今年のSummer Sonic '09 で来日するとのことですので、参加される方は観れるとよいですね。

Rideの後期のグラストンベリーでのライブ映像がYouTubeにアップされているのを最近見つけました。94年の3rdアルバムであるCarnival Of Lightを出した後のライブになります。ソースはイギリスの放送局Channel 4での映像をVHSで録画したものとのことでノイズが目立ちますが、十分楽しめます。
映像を見るとAndy Bellがやはりかっこよく、ファッションも当時好きなスタイルでした。Mark Gardenerは長髪がとても懐かしく彼ら二人の作り出すギターのノイズ、ボーカルのハーモニーはライブでもレベルが高いです。今回の映像ではBirdmanの後半のアレンジが気に入ってます。
