うちの父は消防団員でした。
My father had been a fire volunteer.
この前の地震の時わが故郷にも津波の危険があったので、
今は引退している父ですが、詰め所にいました。
My home town had the danger of tsunami when the great eathquake.
that's why, my father had been the fire station at that time. althought he is in retirement.
父はずっと消防団員だったので、それがあたりまえだったので、理由を聞いたことはないのですが、
He had been a fire volunteer. It is nothing special. I haven't asked him why.
今回の地震で、何故父が消防団員だったのか、分かったような気がします。

いつでも、手を差し伸べられる位置にいれるから、ではないかと。
I think that he can always put out a helping hand when he is a fire volunteer. Maybe.普段の行動では、ボランティア精神があるとはとても見受けられない…いやいや(^▽^;)
