Such being the case, I've just started learning Italian, reading the textbook I got a few years ago. Yes, English is the universal language learned worldwide and I'll always write in it, but, as the saying goes, 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do'. It would be far better to be able to speak Italian only a little than not at all. During my two-week stay in Germany - three days in Munich and eleven days in Berlin - this past July, I had some opportunities to make myself understood in German and this was indeed one of the most exciting experiences in my life. The Italian people you happen to meet in Italy will smile at you if you speak a little Italian and they will be kinder to you than if you don't even speak a word in their language. What do you say?
