今週(12/23)の週刊STのトップ記事は、12月10日深夜、日本各地で観測された皆既月食の話です。
今回の皆既月食は、欠け始めから終わりまでの全過程を観測できるという絶好のコンディションでしたね。
私も深夜外に出て観測していました。赤い月、皆さんも観ましたか？
Total Eclipse of the moon－
People across Japan were able to observe a total eclipse of the moon on the late night of Dec. 10.
12月10日の深夜、日本各地で皆既月食を観測することが出来た。
The shadow of the Earth started to eclipsing the moon at 9:45 p.m. in southeastern skies over Japan, with a full eclipse occurring at 11:05 p.m. The total eclipse continued for around 50 minutes.
日本の南東の空で9:45p.m.地球の影に月が隠れ始め、11:05p.m.には完全な皆既月食となった。皆既月食は、約50分間続いた。
The National Astronomical Observatory of Japan said earlier that the eclipse took place under the best condition since July 2000, allowing people in Japan to observe it from start to finish.
国立天文台は今回の皆既月食について、2000年7月以来のベストコンディションで、日本各地でその開始から終わりまでを観測可能であることを予め発表していた。
In recent years, a total lunar eclipse has taken place around every six months.
近年、皆既月食はだいたい6カ月ごとに起きている。
An eclipse occurs when the sun, Earth and moon are aligned. As the Earth's atmosphere acted like a lens, the moon, even when completely eclipsed, was not blacked out but appeared in different shades ranging from bright orange to a darkish tint, depending on conditions such as atmospheric dust.
皆既月食は、太陽、地球、月が一直線に並んだ時に起きる。地球の大気がレンズのような役割をするので、月が完全に隠れても真っ暗にはならずに、鮮やかなオレンジから黒っぽい色で見えた。これは、大気中の塵などの状態によって変化する。
