The Sand Board

Hearing the symphony of glittering summer waves

I see waves swallowing everything from the beach

I wonder if the waves are acquisitive

I try to talk to them writing my massage on the sand board

So I take a piece of coral and write

“You are eternity” one letter at a time

So that they can swallow my words one by one

Then they come and go bringing me a white seashell

Feeling a sense of loneliness of the waves

I ask on the sand board

“Are you lonely?”

Then they come and go leaving a tiny hermit crab on the board

With my relief and smile I give them the piece of coral putting it

Next to the hermit crab

And the waves take them away back to home

Quietly and softly leaving me all alone on the summer beach

ちかちか光る夏の波の交響曲に耳をすませ

波が浜辺からすべてを飲み込む

波は欲張りなのだろうか

砂のボードにメッセージを書くため

サンゴのかけらを手にとって

一文字ずつ「君は永遠だ」と書いた

彼らがちゃんと飲み込めるように

すると彼らは来ては行き来ては行き

私に白い貝殻を持ってきた

波の寂しさを知った私は

砂のボードに聞いてみた

「君は寂しいのかい？」

すると彼らは来ては行き来ては行き

小さなヤドカリをボードに残して

安堵の笑顔でサンゴをヤドカリの傍に置いてやると

波はゆっくり優しく家に帰していった

私を夏の浜辺に一人残しながら
