Sony has announced that the cumulative sales of the PlayStation 3 reached a milestone of 50 million units worldwide toshiba nb300 battery, toshiba nb305 battery, as of March 29, 2011. Sony also announced that PlayStation Move sales surpassed 8 million units worldwide as of April 3. Mind you, these numbers are shipments to retailers, not actually units sold to consumers.
The PlayStation 3 has had since November 2006 to ship 50 million units, while the Move accessory was introduced September 2010 for North America, Europe/PAL territories and in Asia, and in October 2010 for Japan.
Interestingly enough, the PlayStation Network service now has more than 75 million registered accounts. Of course, users of the PSP can take advantage of the PlayStation Network too, but it's interesting to see the popularity of PSN in relative terms to PS3 sales.
In terms of numbers for everyone else, the PlayStation 3 has just passed Xbox 360 in global terms, but there's still a long way to go to catch up to the Wii.
Research firm Strategy Analytics said that the installed base of PS3s reached 43.4 million units by the end of last year, ahead of dell inspiron 1470 battery, dell inspiron 1570 battery 42.9 million units for the Xbox 360. Nintendo's Wii is still the leader of the pack with 75.5 million shipped consoles.
Sony says it's sold more than eight million Move controllers as of April 3. Sales for the system have been strong. Launched in September of last year, Sony reported that it sold more than a million units in its first 30 days on the market. However, Sony's numbers look modest compared sales of Microsoft's Xbox 360 Kinect. Microsoft launched Kinect at the beginning of November and sold eight million of the hands-free system in the first two months. It took Sony, on the other hand, seven months to hit that number.
Sony said in a press release that it's seen the PlayStation Network grow along with the console itself. PSN now has more than 75 million registered accounts operating in 59 countries around the globe.
Sony might be happy to report some positive PlayStation news. The company reached a settlementlast week with PS3 dell vostro 1400 keyboard, dell vostro 1500 keyboard hacker George "Geohot" Hotz that includes Hotz agreeing to a permanent injunction against posting information that Sony has wanted removed. Hotz, however, claims that he will never buy a Sony product again.
