25 things about me
私について25の事柄,,, バトン？みたいなものですよね。最近みかけないけど。
SNSそのものにしてもそうですけれども、
どうもこういったものは日本のほうがアメリカより先を行ってる気がします。
1. When I was growing up I wanted to be a diplomat just like my father.
2. My mother was an aspiring scientist and frankly does not care for literature.
3. My grandmother was a kimono maker and she taught me how to sew.
4. My first language was Russian, which I no longer speak. I was very disappointed that it didn't all
come flooding back when I visited Uzbekistan later in my life.
5. My first memory is of a truck driver in Moscow winking at me from the window of his truck.
I tried hard to wink back.
6. The only things I liked about elementary school in Japan was spaghetti meat sauce and
frozen clementines.
7. I wanted a calculator for Christmas in third grade. This was because my dad was making me do
six-digit multiplication tables everyday.
8. The most difficult pronunciation in English to learn was the R sound, as in "girl" or "curl."
9. The most beautiful painting I've ever seen was Boticelli's Primavera. It's in Florence but I always
think it's in Munich. It is also the jigsaw puzzle with the most number of pieces I've ever completed.
10 The worst haircut I've ever gotten was in Vienna. It was 1985 and I was nine.
11. The closest I came to death was either living in Baghdad or the car crash on my way back from
MLA in Philadelphia。
12. The saddest thing I saw as a child was weary Egyptian and Sudanese migrant workers qeued up
at Saddam Hussein international airport.
13. I agreed to skipping seventh grade in Canada, not fully understanding the impact it would have on
my social life. Still, it gave me Latin.
14. For a long time I said "eh?" at the end of many sentences. I'd still do it if you'd let me.
15. I was extremely jealous of girls who got their mothers to buy them off-the-shoulder

16. My first PC was an IBM think pad and I wrote my B.A. thesis on it. It was on Edith Wharton.
17. The first lipstick I ever got was frosty pink, and it was from Courreges.
18. The first movie I ever saw on a date was Basic Instinct, and that was a really bad choice.
19. My books don't all fit in my office and I can't figure out which books should stay home.
20. I did not actually get through all of the Tale of Genji, unless comic form counts.
21. I never became a diplomat after all but that's really ok.
22. I 'm craving really good unagi, like really good ones preferably somewhere in Kagurazaka.
23. I wish I didn't get bored with fashion magazines so quickly, because I still buy them.
24. Sometimes I use stickers to motivate myself.
25. I really love the Breuning earrings Nate got me for my birthday and wear them everyday.
トークのお知らせ
Southern California Science Network（SCSN)の「テニュアトラック、アカデミアのポジション獲得に向けて」
というフォーラムでUCLAの中野敦先生とご一緒させてもらい、トークをすることが決まりました。
中野先生は理系、私は文系で、テニュアトラックを取るプロセスの簡単な概説をします。
現在の経済の状態でアカデミアの採用状況は変わってきてはいますが、いつ、どのように、どうやって、などという基本的に変わらない事項をできるだけわかりやすく紹介するつもりでおります。
場所はUCIキャンパス、日時は３月７日（土）です。

夫婦げんか？
父親が「ご参考に」という題のメールを送ってきました。
「ノッツェ結婚情報センター」（東京都）による既婚男女６６０人への調査で、こんな結果が出た。
夫婦げんかの頻度は月１、２回が最多で、年１、２回（２５％）、数年に１度（１９％）、週１、２回（１６％）と続いた。「しない」は１０％だったが、なんと「毎日する」が２％だった。 けんかの内容は「態度・価値観」が２７％でダントツ、学校や教育方針など子供関係（１５％）、家事関係（１４％）の順。全国的には１０％で５位だった「給料や小遣いなど家計関係」が、北海道と沖縄県はそれぞれ１５％、１６％で、２番目に多かった。
調査は昨年１２月１日から今年１月５日にインターネットで行われ、全国の男女各３３０人が回答していた。
う～ん、何が言いたいんだろう。
