日本人のみなさまへ、アメリカ人からの質問です。

I've been sitting with the same sushi chef for about six years, and he finally got his own place. Now, I've brought alcohol down for us to share and have him plan a meal around many times, but I wonder if the opening of his very first restaurant requires a gift. So, is it appropriate for me to buy a bottle of bourbon and give it to him? I presume that if he accepts it, he might crack it open and share, but I'm not sure, and I don't want to make him uncomfortable. What are your thoughts on this? =)

6年間行きつけのお鮨屋さんの板前さんがようやく今度自分のお店を出すことになりました。これまでお酒を持ってったり特別なメニューを考えてもらったりしてる仲なんだけれども、お店を出したお祝いとして喜ばれる特別なもの（しきたり）はあるのでしょうか。バーボン買ってくのは変？受け取ってくれたら多分その場で開けてくれるだろうけど、よくわからないし、居心地悪くさせたくもない。どう思いますか？

しきたりなんてあるんですか？知り合いがお店出したことはないからよく知らないなあ。

その板前さんも日本のしきたりをアメリカ人が知らなくても別にどうってことないと思うけどね？
