Hello everyone!

It's Clint from Riverdale English

Christmas is in the air. The songs and craft activities we've been doing with our students this month reminds me a lot about the joys and excitement of a child this holiday season.

As we through our Christmas vocabulary one particular word stands out the most. You could probably guess what or “who” it is? It's the man in red suit and cap with thick white beard and mustache and a fairly visible belly who carries a big bag full of children's wishes and rides a sleigh drawn by Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Olive. Well of course, it’s Santa!!!

Christmas is probably the most celebrated holiday in the world but Christmas eve is the most awaited time for every child. Well, at least it is on my side of the world.

As a little boy, every year I would write a letter (its more of a wishlist actually) to Santa a month before Christmas and place it on my window before I sleep.  From then on, the countdown begins.  It's not just about counting the days but more so the extra good deeds done to be a “good boy”.

On the eve of December 24th the my parents would wake us up.  We'd rush down past our christmas tree  taking a quick  glimpse to check our presents, go straight outside our house hoping to see Santa and his reindeers while shouting “thank you Santa”.

In case you're wondering why we’re not so concerned about our neighbors. It’s because we could here the other kids too.  Just like roosters crowing one after the other.

Do you ever wonder how Christmas is celebrated around the world?  And do you know that  Santa is called by different names in different countries, too?

In North America he is called Santa Claus. In Ireland, Santy. In England he is known as Father Christmas  or Old Man Christmas. In France, he is called Pere Noel. The Dutch call him Sinterklaas.  For the Spanish he is Papa Noel.  He is also known as Saint Nicholas or Saint Nick.

Some say he lives in the North Pole where he has a workshop and toy factory.  Nowadays, you can visit him in his Christmas Village in Lapland, Finland.  But as they say “a rose by any other name is still a rose”. So however or whatever he's called, he is the gift-bringer. He gives presents as a reward for those little boys and girls who have been “good” the whole year round.

I hope you all have a very special Christmas this year and even more to come next year!
