About 80% of 100-yen coins minted in Heisei 10 had a different sound.
約８割の平成10年の100円玉が他の年の100円玉と違う音がすることが分かりました
I always wondered why no one else noticed this.
みんな気づかないのが不思議でした
I first discovered it when a 100-yen coin came out of a vending machine.
最初に気づいたのは自販機から出てきた100円玉
The coin had a different sound, and I suspected it might be counterfeit.
違う音の硬貨が出てきた、偽造硬貨！？と疑いました
I held the suspicious coin along with other 100-yen coins in my hand and shook them together.
他の100円と一緒に手に握り、「カチャ、カチャ」と振ってみました
The difference in sound was obvious! It's hard to describe in words, but I could distinguish it clearly.
明らかに音が違う！言葉では言い表せないが、聞き分けられました
So, I diligently started collecting 100-yen coins with the distinct sound from Heisei 10.
たたはせっせと音が違う平成10年の硬貨を集めました
This skill was a hit at parties.
合コンでウケがいいです。
I would use three 100-yen coins, with one being from Heisei 10, and have someone sign that coin with a marker.
３枚の100円玉を使い、そのうち１枚平成10年の100円玉にして、それに油性ペンでサインさせて
Then, I would have them hold two coins in one hand and the signed coin in the other.
２枚と１枚に分けて両手に握ってもらい
By shaking the two-coin hand, I could accurately guess which hand held the signed 100-yen coin.
２枚握っているほうのコインを鳴らしてもらい、どっちの手にサインした100円玉があるか当てる
I had never missed.
成功率100％
Later on, I occasionally asked friends, colleagues, seniors, and juniors if they noticed the difference in the sound of 100-yen coins, but no one did.
その後、たまに友人とか同僚とか、先輩とか、後輩に聞きましたが、誰も100円玉の音の違いに気づいていない
It was a unique skill only I had.
たただけが持つユニークスキルだったようです
I could do this until around the age of 30, but now I can't distinguish the sounds anymore.
30歳くらいまではできましたが、今ではもう聞き分けられません
The 100-yen coins I had collected, but I've since spent them all...
