昨日の公民館講座のテキスト（一部）です：
While tilling the soil in our small vegetable garden, I often come across earthworms. So I researched earthworms and learned a lot about their contribution to the environment: 我が家の小さな菜園で土を耕していると、よくミミズに出くわす。 そこで私はミミズについて調べ、彼らの環境への貢献について多くを学んだ:
As earthworms consume soil, they extract nutrients by decomposing organic matter such as leaves and roots. ミミズは土壌を消費する際に、葉や根などの有機物を分解して栄養分を抽出する。
Earthworms are vital to the health of the soil and the plants that grow in it, because they transport nutrients and minerals from below to the surface through their waste. An earthworm can eat up to a third of its body weight in a single day. ミミズは、排泄物を介して栄養分やミネラルを地中から地表に運ぶため、土壌の健康やそこで育つ植物にとって不可欠な存在である。ミミズは1日に体重の3分の1まで食べることができる。
上記のメールに対してMarieさんから返信があった：
I used to teach my students about earthworms. We had a glass-fronted container that held soil. We could see the tracks of the earthworms as they moved through the soil, eating organic matter. 私は以前、生徒たちにミミズについて教えていた。 ガラス張りの容器に土を入れた。 ミミズが有機物を食べながら土の中を移動する跡を見ることができた。
If I needed earthworms for another school year, we would go out on the lawn and stomp our feet. The worms would come out of the grass! また学年度が変わって、ミミズが必要な時、私たちは芝生に出て足を踏み鳴らした。 草の中からミミズが出てきたものです！
After a rain, earthworms emerge from the soil. I put them into our flower planters.
雨が降ると、土の中からミミズが出てくる。 私はそれを花のプランターに入れます。Gardeners are very aware of the need for earthworms. They can be bought on line. 庭師はミミズの必要性をよく知っている。 ミミズはオンラインで購入できる。
