A 10-foot monster native to the grasslands of Victoria, the giant Gippsland earthworm may appear terrifying, but it's actually a threatened species whose biggest foe is humans. ビクトリア州の草原に生息する1.5メートルの怪物、巨大なギプスランド・ミミズは、一見恐ろしく見えるかもしれないが、実は絶滅危惧種であり、最大の敵は人間である。
The giant earthworm has mesmerized [=captivated] locals as it can grow up to six and a half feet long and is the largest worm in the world. この巨大ミミズは、体長1.5メートルにもなる世界最大のミミズとして、現地の人々を魅了してきた。

Yes, I know about earthworms and have used them or seen them in the garden. I was a science teacher so naturally would know about these worms. I taught a science class and had a class garden so my students grew many vegetables. On Kauai, my dad used to grow some things in the back yard too.
