ひ~くんの英語よもやま話=320=（石山寺参詣記）

（石山寺 本堂）
やや風の強い春寒の日、妻（さい）くんに手を引かれて、石山寺参りをした。 石山寺は創建762年,琵琶湖畔に立つ、古刹である。何百段かの階段をなんとか上り切り、森に囲まれた本堂に辿り着いた。 本堂の一角に紫式部が、「源氏物語」の構想を練り、筆を進めたと伝えられる小さな部屋があった。 森は思索を育むところだと改めて感じた。
風の強い、寒い日であったが、こころは温かかった。 出会う人はみんなやさしかった。 六十代と思われる中国人夫妻はがんばってと励ましの声をかけてくれた。フランスから来た青年は風に飛んだ僕のハンカチを追っかけて手渡してくれた。門前に並ぶお店の人たちもとても明るく愉快だった。 彼らのお団子も、善哉も安価でとても美味しかった。 帰りのバスの窓外の空気は透明できらきら輝いていた。
On a slightly windy, cold spring day, I visited Ishiyama-dera Temple, led by my wife's hand. Ishiyama-dera Temple is an old temple founded around 762 on the shore of Lake Biwa. I managed to climb several hundred stone steps and reached the main hall, which was standing in the forest.
In a corner of the main hall was a small room where Murasaki Shikibu is said to have conceived and worked on The Tale of Genji. It made me feel certain that the forest is a place where contemplation is nurtured.
It was a cold, windy day, but my heart was warm. Everyone we met was so kind. A Chinese couple who looked to be in their sixties gave encouraging voices and smiles. A young Frenchman chased after my handkerchief that had blown away in the wind and handed it to me. The employees of the shops lined up in front of the temple gate were also very kind and friendly. The dumplings and zenzai they served were reasonable and very tasty. The air outside the bus window on the way home was clear and sparkling.
上記参詣記の背景の一つに、以前ブログに書いた「森は哲人を育む」がある：
森の生活は樹木から発散されるフィトンチッドが豊富で脳に鎮静効果をもたらすアルファー波を増やすので思考力が高まる：プラトンはアテネ近郊のアカデミーの森でアリストテレスなどの門下生を教え、仏陀は菩提樹の下で悟りを開き、空海は吉野や四国の森で修行し、中国晋代の七賢は竹林で思索を深めかつ興じた。
博物学者の荒俣宏氏がアカデミーの持つ意味を漢字（2字）で、「学林」と書いたのは“描き得て妙”だ。

The Buddha sat under the Bodhi tree to attain enlightenment, the founder of the Shingon sect, Kukai, trained in the forests of Yoshino and Shikoku, and the Seven Sages of ancient China mused and played in the bamboo grove.
Aramata Hiroshi, a naturalist, tried to express the idea of the academy in kanji and wrote it as follows: “学林.”
