自民党の裏金工作スキャンダルをVOAは次のように報じています：
The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office arrested former Vice Minister of Education Yoshitaka Ikeda on suspicion of failing to report fundraising income he received from his faction within the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.東京地検特捜部は、池田佳隆前文部科学副大臣を、自民党内の派閥から受け取った資金を報告しなかった疑いで逮捕した。
Ikeda's faction, which used to be led by the late former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who was assassinated in 2022, has remained the largest and most influential within Kishida's ruling party. The faction is suspected of failing to report more than 600 million yen ($4.15 million). 池田の所属派閥は、2022年に暗殺された故・安倍晋三元首相が率いていた派閥で、岸田派の与党内で最大かつ最も影響力のある派閥であり続けている。この派閥は、6億円（415万ドル）以上の収益を報告しなかった疑いが持たれている。
The former vice-minister was accused of not reporting more than 40 million yen (about $276,500) he received from the faction as kickback from political event ticket sales, a violation of political funds control law. 前次官は、派閥から受け取った4000万円（約27万6500ドル）以上を政治資金規正法違反である政治資金パーティー券の販売による収益をピンハネして報告しなかったことで告発された。
Kishida said the arrest was "extremely regrettable" and that the party must have a strong sense of crisis. 岸田首相は、今回の逮捕は「極めて遺憾」であり、党として強い危機感を持たなければならないと述べた。
Kishida replaced four of his Cabinet ministers linked to the scandal in December in an attempt to defuse the scandal that has rocked his party and grip on power. Former top government spokesman Hirokazu Matsuno and Economy and Trade Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura were among those removed. 岸田首相は12月、党と政権を揺るがすスキャンダルを緩和するため、スキャンダルに関連した閣僚4人を更迭した。更迭された中には、松野博一前政府報道官と西村康稔経済産業大臣も含まれている。
Support ratings for Kishida have continued to drop, falling below 20% despite purging members of the Abe faction involved in the scandal. This move could trigger an internal power struggle within the ruling party. 岸田内閣の支持率は下がり続け、スキャンダルに関与した安倍派議員が排除したにもかかわらず、20％を割り込んだ。この動きは与党内の権力闘争の引き金になりかねない。
The current fundraising scandal is considered one of the biggest blunders in decades by the powerful party. However, while Kishida's leadership is shaky, the LDP's grip on power is seen as unchanged as long as the opposition remains fragmented. 今回の裏金工作スキャンダルは、この数十年で最大の失態のひとつと考えられている。しかし、岸田氏のリーダーシップが揺らいでいる一方で、野党が分断されたままである限り、自民党の政権掌握力は変わらないと見られている。
岸田首相は口癖のように「国民の厳しい目が注がれています」と言う。 政策に信念をもって向かうならば、国民の目を気にする必要はまったくないはずである。
