I went jogging at 6:30 am this morning. It was chilly and the sun rays were weak. That was good for jogging. I want to get up at that time everyday, but I don't have a alarm clock. I need to buy one.
I tidied my things up this morning. I decorated a small sheep doll and a beanie bear on my desk. The sheep is from one of my Australian friends. The bear was in the parcel of my birthday gifts from my sister. I liked the conbination of them a lot.
My host mother offered to take me to the college today. She seemed to go on a walk everyday, so she could take me there, going on a walk. However, when I finished my preparation (I needed UV cream on my skin), she was already gone. There was no note and I looked for her a lot. Then, I wrote a note to her and left h
ome fot the college because I already put UV cream and didn't want to waste it.
My college is my sister's previous college. I was going there, looking at a map which my sister drew for me. But, I have a couple of minor mistakes and took long ways. Anyway, I found how to go to the chinese supermarket as a result. I met many good people. Everyone says hello each other here, even to this stranger, like in Australia. That's a very good thing.
Near the college, I came to an intersection. I couldn't understand the traffic signals for pedestrian. I had been to America three times to visit my sister, but I didn't be bothered even once about many things because she helped me about them! I pressed a button of a signal, but probebly I missed the white signal which was displayed for about three seconds. I only saw red signals and couldn't recognize the state of blinking or not. I tried not to have much attention and walked away. ;)
Until I arried at the college, I was too tired to look around inside there. I have visited there twice and I didn't have to do it in particular. So, I went back home soon.
I didn't use my umbrella (it's for rain and sun rays) today because the host mother's son told me that people didn't really use it here. However, the sun rays are quite strong and now I'm worried about my skin. I will go to the collge earlier and it'll be ok. Walking to the college doesn't really matter for me. I like the flower garden which located along a street. It's nice to see flowers everyday. Maybe I need 40 minutes on foot to/from the college, although the host family said it took 20 minutes normally. I like exercise. No problem.
This is the flower garden. A old man waters it every morning.
When I came home, the host mother was there. She apologized to me and said that she tought I shouldn't have been on a walk because the temperature got higher than she assumed, then she went shopping on her car.
She served me the dish which I couldn't eat last night. Rice, boiled spinach, baked meats, fried egg, tomato soup. I enjoyed the lunch very much. I hadn't had rice for two days and so I was really glad to eat it.
Host mother and I talked a lot in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. What I said was all broken, but it was fun!
I happen to sleep at 4 pm since my arrival. I actually didn't want to go out today because I feel exhausted. My ear ringing is getting louder. I feel scared. It was very hot today and that made me more tired. I'll stay at home all day tomorrow. I forgot to go to a bank for my new bank account, but I have a credit card and I think I should take a rest.
When I woke up at 7 pm, It was still hot. I realized the air conditionar has stopped. I tried to switch on the fan in my room, but it didn't work. Then, I found that there was no electricity and no one except me at home. At 8 pm, it was getting dark and I had nothing to do. I couldn't do cooking and call the host family without electricity. I had no mobile. I wondered where the family were in my dark room. This is the second power outage I experienced this month. Once in Japan. How lucky I am!
At around 10, they came home. They didn't want to wake me up who went to bed very early and went to dinner. About one hour later, the power got back. I felt a bit unstable and couldn't go to bed soon. So, ladies in the house kept talking a lot until late.
My sister emailed me and it said that there were many Asian people in LA and some of them used umbrella against sun. I wanted to follow here's custom, but I can't disregard skin cancer because my father has a lot of big and thick freckles on his back. They are quite agree and occupy half part of its surface area. I am Asian and so probably I can use my umbrella even here. People wouldn't mind about a foreinger, I think.
