I feel not good today. Whether I take a harder class or not is a big issue for me. What if my new semester becomes too hard like the last one until I dropped physics? I don't want to experience that hard period of time anymore, though I want to reduce my weight again.
When I was seeing my book shelf, I decided not to treat my textbooks neatly. I don't know why, but American textbooks are too large and thick for me. It's even hard to take them from the book shelf. Especially, math books. Why 1,000 pages in one book? They should separate it in two or three. I anyway am cutting them apart. If I don't, I even don't want to touch it. Extremely heavy.
I went to the city with my friend. I was surprised at her eagerness for shopping. She got two pairs of shoes at really good prices in a discount shoe store. Although we were there for three hours, I couldn't find any good pairs and I gave her my coupon. We kept walking until late, mainly looking for her jacket. We got too tired from walking a lot.
My sister left Japan for America today. She stayed at our parents' house for about 3 weeks. She hadn't came back to Japan for one year and a half. Some of her college friends now are teaching English in Japan and so she showed them around the Tokyo city this time. I was jealous of her in Japan because I'm experiencing this non New Year atmosphere here!! ;) I don't miss my country, but I just had almost nothing special here. I should give up about New Year and think this as one of long holidays.
I went jogging today. After I just ran faster a bit, I felt sick. I stopped jogging when my school started. Lately, I feel that my body is relatively being out of control. The period of time to get used to the new environment was already over. Now is the time to start preparation for the new semester.
Happy New Year! I was seeking for something Japanese and so went to a Japanese restaurant with my friends. To my disapointment, there were no Osechi cuisine there! I knew it, though... I couldn't enjoy Christmas atmosphere here and so I was missing something special. Anyway, the meal was all-you-can-eat buffet and it was quite good. We ate a lot.
My host family invited me to Hong Kong style pan dinner at home. They decorated something on a low table and told me that it was for Gods.
The Hong Kong pan was very similar to the Japanese pan, but some differences made me amused. We don't use the basket-like spoon to scoop food and we use seaweed and bonito for soup instead of mushroom.
When I talked with the wife of this family's son, she suddenly said that my English classes were too low and they were wasting money and time. Although I explained how different between well-educated Hong Kong people and normal Japanese people, she never heard of it. She even went to a high school in England. There was no reason I could win in that kind of discussion with the good English speaker. The son said, "give me the (wasted) money" as a joke. I gave up explaining and felt like I was insulted. They never believe that many Japanese students couldn't pass those kind of "low" classes. We weren't colonized by UK and had no better environment like Hong Kong to speak and learn English. I fully knew thinking about her was exactly wasting time, but the her unlistening attitude seemed too rude for me and I couldn't forget it for a while.
Irritating, I tidied up my room after that and realized that I used up many notebooks only for a semester. I am satisfied with my efforts. I'll never stop making efforts to be a good English speaker and writer.
My exams finished yesterday! I think all of my grades should be ok. I'm glad. One hour after I took the computer class' exam, the teacher told me that I got a highest score in the class. I don't think I could understand all the contents in the textbook properly, but I was so happy then.
I never thought that I could finish my first semester properly. It might have been a disaster. Although I chose classes carefully, this semester was my big challenge. One year ago, I even couldn't think of coming here. I feel touched a bit.
Some of my friends skipped a couple of English classes today. Maybe because of the holiday. I heard from a friend of mine that there will be a great sale at some department stores in SF. It starts from midnight. Waiting in a line outside sounds cold!
My third essay returned and I got the hightest score. I'm glad. The teacher asked me again to let her use my essay as an example for her presentation documents. I remembered my friends who corrected my writings. Although my current English class is for international students and my writing is still like in this diary, I am very glad to know joy to write in English. I thank them so much.
I thought I should have taken a rest even a little bit on the weekend. I was too tired and felt sick during the day.
The result of the third math exam returned and I got a full score. But, the full score doen't mean that I had no mistakes in it. I don't know why, but the teachers check the solving steps and take tiny amount from the score. Then, they give us some bonus credit for something and the score taken comes back. That's a bit strenge. I'll take a much difficult math class next term and it wouldn't be this easy.
I'm studying math everyday since the exam. Because it's just a little bit for a day, I want to continue it for several years.
