The Volcanoes pulled out a 127-124 road victory over the Phoenix Flame on Tuesday, closing out their International Basketball League regular season. With the victory, Vancouver was able to even its four-game West Coast road trip at 2-2 and improve to 6-16 on the year.

Volcanoes coach Theo Evans knew his team had one last chance to straighten itself out before the IBL West playoffs begin, and Evans feels like Vancouver has done it.

"We're playing pretty good basketball right now," Evans said. "Everyone's playing as a team, and we're getting good effort from our starters and our role players."

The Volcanoes were led on the road trip by guards Porter Troupe and Brad Lechtenberg. Lechtenberg scored a team-high 34 points Sunday in Vancouver's 132-118 win over Phoenix.

"He's definitely back," Evans said. "He's as hot as he's been all season."

Lechtenberg, the Volcanoes' leading scorer in 2006, missed the middle part of the 2007 season with a deep thigh bruise.

"He allows us to Gucci Watches spread defenses out and push the ball up the court on offense," Evans said. "We really missed him when he was out. He's a leader."

The Volcanoes will take on the Everett Explosion in the first round of the IBL playoffs at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Warner Pacific College in Portland.

The Explosion blew out the Volcanoes 139-94 when the teams met in Vancouver on April 10. But Evans was careful to point out that the Volcanoes' roster was much different then, and that his team has a newfound outlook.
