前回、間違えた箇所は解説を読んで、そんなものかとそのまま覚えました。
しかし、今回はきちんと調べました。

正解はalong 。assembly line はつまり、line だから along なんだろうと、当時はそのまま覚えることにしました。
で、今回英英辞典で調べると、
along
（英英辞書１）on or beside the length of~
（英英辞書２）over the length of~
（英英辞書３）from one end to the other
「長さにおいて、端から端まで」。
いままで漠然と、「～に沿って」という意味でしかとらえていなかったので、これは収穫でした。
例文

* Cars are backed up all along the Long Island Expressway.(英和活用)
車はロングアイランド高速道路全線にわたって渋滞している
↑ all がalongを強調しているのでしょうね。

ツタが垣根の端から端まで伸びていた
「端から端まで」の意味から、「はじめからずっと」の意味合いが出るのでしょうね。
