Soon the streets of Bowling Green will be filled with ghosts, goblins, pirates, superheroes, witches and some princesses, too - all in search of scary haunts and candy.
And downtown is where it will start as the Downtown Merchants Association brings back Scare on the Square. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, many downtown merchants around Fountain Square, including Micki's on Main, Verdi restaurant, Bowling Green Pipe and Cigar, The Place, Candle Makers on the Square and Spencer's Coffeehouse, will be providing Halloween candy for trick-or-treating. callaway x24 irons
Some businesses on the square will place pumpkins in their windows to let people know they are participating, said Michael Barron, owner of Morris Jewelry and Candle Makers.
While trick-or-treating is under way, the Rockin' B Carriage will offer carriage rides around the square and around Circus Square. Rides are $1 for children 12 and under and $5 for adults.
"And on that ride, there is a good chance a headless horseman will intercept them," Barron said. "So that will be fun."
Barron also said Scare on the Square this year will hopefully feature Michael Jackson's "Thriller" dance. Although Karen Hume, executive director of the Capitol Arts Alliance, said in an earlier interview that the person who was expected to teach and lead the dance would not be Toronto Raptors jerseys able to do so, Barron said there is still a good chance "Thriller" will make a debut on the square.
"It's not off the charts yet," he said. "We've advertised it, and we're trying to make it happen."
Saturday's activities, he said, are an extension of Friday's activities on the square, including the 440/Micki's on Main costume contest, with The Tyrone Dunn Experiment performing around 9 p.m.
"There have been changes around the square, and this is a good opportunity for people to come down," he said. "And while their kids are trick-or-treating, they can see what is new."

Museum Monster Mash
The National Corvette Museum will be celebrating Halloween with festivities for the entire family.
From noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, there will be trick-or-treating, a costume contest, arts and craft activities and carnival games with prizes. Concessions will be available for purchase at the museum's cafe.
While the event is free, it will cost 25 cents to play the carnival games. Admission to the museum's tours will remain, as it is not included in this event.

Halloween Chess Bash
Chess boards will be plentiful Saturday as the Faculty House on the campus of Western Kentucky University opens its doors to players looking for a good game.
Hosted by the SOKY Chess League, doors will open at 8 p.m. and those in attendance will be able to play until midnight. There will be a chess tournament for both adult and children's divisions, a costume contest and Nike dunks low a pumpkin-carving contest.
Admission is $5 per person.
