ANNOUNCEMENT

Preparatory Process for the Summit of the Future:
Engagement of Major Groups and other Stakeholders and Civil Society

Virtual consultation
30 May 2024, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Co-Facilitators of the Summit of the Future, the Permanent Representative of Germany to the UN and the Permanent Representative of Namibia to the UN invite Member States and all stakeholders, including representatives of Major Groups and other Stakeholders (MGoS) and civil society networks and organizations, to a Virtual Consultation on 30 May 2024, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The objectives of this consultation are:

1) To hear from the Co-Chairs of the UN Civil Society Conference (CSC) in Nairobi regarding the discussions and the follow up to the conference. The Co-Facilitators of the informal consultations (or their representatives) on the Declaration on Future Generations and the Global Digital Compact, who also attended the UN CSC, will be present during this segment.

2) Provide opportunity for MGoS and other civil society networks and organizations to share their reactions and views on Rev1 of the Pact (at: sotf-pact-for-the-future-rev.1.pdf (un.org)). Additionally, the consultation will provide opportunity for MGoS and civil society to articulate their priorities for the Pact directly to Member States.

This is an opportunity for Member States to hear from civil society about the UN CSC and for a direct exchange of ideas between civil society organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC, MGoS and delegations.

At the Virtual Consultation, priority will be given to statements delivered on behalf of groups of States and stakeholders. Time limits of 3 minutes for groups and 2 minutes for national or individual statements will be enforced.

All stakeholders, including MGoS and civil society representatives, interested in participating in the consultation are asked to register via this link (see also the QR code embedded in the letter at this link).

A link to the virtual room will be shared with registered participants before the event. During the meeting, the Secretariat will indicate in the chat box how connected stakeholders can inscribe the list of speakers.

The format for the virtual consultation will include the following:

First, the Co-Chairs of the UN CSC will be given the floor to report back from the conference.
After that, we will invite speakers as follows, with statements by groups of States and Member States interspersed throughout:
Co-Chairs of the Coordination Mechanism of Major Groups and other Stakeholders (MGoS) (max. 5 minutes).
Representatives of individual MGoS, civil society coalitions and groups (max. 3 minutes).
Representatives of individual NGOs, expert groups, private sector and other stakeholders (max. 2 minutes).
