The Emirate of Kuwait announced that the Emir of Sabaaf (Sabaha) died on September 29.
Many Kuwaitis would have guessed that something had happened to the Emir as Kuwaiti television stations interrupted their regular programming shortly before the announcement to broadcast the Qur'an (Quran).
This is because the Emir of Sabaha was admitted to a hospital in the United States after undergoing surgery in the country in July.
Since then, although there have been occasional official announcements that his health was improving, the sheikh himself has not made any public appearances, and at 91 years of age, concerns have been raised about his health.

クウェートのテレビ局は発表の少し前から通常の番組を中断してクルアーン（以下、コーラン）を流し出したので、多くのクウェート人は首長の身に何かあったと察したであろう。
サバハ首長は、7月に国内で手術を受けたあと、米国の病院に入院していたからだ。
その後、健康状態は回復との公式発表が時おりなされていたものの、首長本人は一切表に出ることがなくなっており、91歳という年齢も年齢なので、健康状態に懸念が出ていた。
日本とクウェートの友好外交を継続していきましょう。
