Do you know the new word "phubbing," which refers to snubbing someone in a conversation by using a cell phone, and its potential impact on relationships and mental health. Research suggests that phubbing makes face-to-face interactions less meaningful, even when people only imagine being snubbed. The presence of a cell phone during a conversation, even if unused, can make individuals feel less connected. The latest study indicates that phubbing threatens fundamental needs such as belongingness, self-esteem, meaningful existence, and control, leading to feelings of exclusion and ostracization.

Furthermore, phubbing has been linked to depression and lower marital satisfaction in relationships, as it conveys a sense of prioritizing something else over personal togetherness. Both the person being snubbed and the one engaging in phubbing are negatively affected.
