01 I know it's not a lot, but it should be enough. For the time being.
"Not bad," the boy named Crow says, "For the time being."
I give him another nod.
"I'm guessing this isn't Christmas money from Santa Clause."
"Year, you're right," I reply.
Crow smirks andd look around. "I imagine you've started out by rifling drawers, am I right?"
I don't say anything. He knows whose money we're talking, so there's no need for any long-winded integorations. He's just giving me a hard time.
smirk = 皮肉っぽく、唇を曲げる。
rifling drawers = ？ drawer = 引き出し。
long-winded = 回りくどい。
give someone a hard time = 人を責める。つらい目に合わせる。てこずらせる。(ここでは) からかう。
05 「まあ悪くはない」とカラスと呼ばれる少年は言う。「とりあえずはね」
僕はうなずく。
「でもそれは去年のクリスマスにサンタクロースがくれたお金じゃなさそうだね」と彼は言う。
「ちがう」と僕は言う。
カラスと呼ばれる少年は皮肉っぽく、唇を曲げてあたりを見回す。「出どころはこのあたりの誰かの引き出し―というところかな？」
僕は返事をしない。もちろん彼は最初からそれがどういう金なのか散っている。回りくどい質問をするまでもなく、そういう言い方を して僕をからかっているだけだ。
02 "No matter," Crow says. "You really need this money and you're going to get it--beg, borrow or steal. It's your father's money, so who cares. Right? Get your hands on that much and you should be able to make it. For the time being. But what's the plan after it's all gone? Meney isn't like mushrooms in a forest--it doesn't just pop up on its own, you know. You'll need to eat, a place to sleep. One day you"re going to run out."
"I'll think about that when the time comes," I say.
no matter = まあ、いいさ。
02 「なあ、いいさ」とカラスと呼ばれる少年は言う。「君はそのお金を必要としている。切実にね。そして君はそれを手に入れる。借りる、 黙って拝借する、盗む――なんでもいい。どのみち君の父親のお金だ。それだけあればとりあえずはなんとかなるだろう。でも、その４０万円だかを 使い切ってしまったときはどうするつもりなんだい。だって財布に入れたお金が、森のキノコみたいに自然に増えていくわけではないからさ。 君には食べるものが気つようだし、寝るところも必要だ。お金はいつか無くなる」
